I’m making a carved holster for a customer. I start off first by making a paper pattern to lay out the overall shape.
Next I trace the carving pattern out on the leather. I cut the pattern with a swivel knife.
Using a set of punches and a leather knife, I carve the shape into the leather.
Then color the entire piece.
The belt loop and retaining strap is added next, along with the snaps.
A soft suede liner is then glued into place. This prevents any stitching and snaps from rubbing the finish off the revolver.
The liner is trimmed and a welt is stitched into the edge along with the liner itself. The edges are sanded flat
Wet down and slicker the edges, put on some edge dressing and the holster is ready to go.
